About Me

My photo
I've decided to start a photo blog because i've seen/read a few and found it a great way to express myself. I've always admired my sister for how eloquent she was at writing and for my mom who when she expresses herself creates these amazing events in life/work where you pinch yourself to make sure it's real! My husband expresses himself through words, beautifully thoughtful, strong and wise words you start to look at things in a whole new light. This will be my thing I've always loved photography, which I believe is one of the great things i've inherited from my dad! I'm saving for a great camera but for the meantime i'll borrow my dad's and use my trusty canon which has still proven to be the best portable camera i've owned! I'm hopeful this blog will serve as a therapist, creative outlet and to journal the things that happen in my life.

A night with the stars!

On Monday September 13, myself, Danny, Jackie and Dave had the amazing opportunity to go the Toronto International Film Festival and watch the North American premiere of Black Swan. Starring Natalie Portman, Wynona Rider, Mila Kunis and Vincent Cassel. The film is directed by Darren Aronofsky who is best known for films such as Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler and Pi. Here is a little synopsis of the movie; "Nina (Portman) is a ballerina in a New York City ballet company whose life, like all those in her profession, is completely consumed with dance. She lives with her obsessive former ballerina mother Erica (Hershey) who exerts a suffocating control over her. When artistic director Thomas Leroy (Cassel) decides to replace prima ballerina Beth MacIntyre (Ryder) for the opening production of their new season, Swan Lake, Nina is his first choice. But Nina has competition: a new dancer, Lily (Kunis), who impresses Leroy as well. Swan Lake requires a dancer who can play both the White Swan with innocence and grace, and the Black Swan, who represents guile and sensuality. Nina fits the White Swan role perfectly but Lily is the personification of the Black Swan. As the two young dancers expand their rivalry into a twisted friendship, Nina begins to get more in touch with her dark side - a recklessness that threatens to destroy her."

I felt so posh as we arrived at Roy Thompson hall with our "Priority" tickets... thanks to mom!! There was press everywhere and just crowds of people hoping to get a glimpse of their favorite stars. I held Danny's hand so tight as he guided me through the crowd because I was watching for famous people!
All of a sudden he said, "there they are!" of course I get all excited and this is what I see!
OK not someone famous but they'll do.... :)

Oh I forgot to mention just before meeting up with Jackie and Dave, Danny and I had dinner at one of my favorite places Lone Star where I ran into my best friend from grade school!!! It was so amazing to see her and connect, brought back so many fantastic memories. We truly were partners in crime and I promise I'm going to find those old pictures of us and post them! I am definitely going to make an effort to reconnect with her.

Back to the main event... we get let into the theatre where again I'm wandering the hall looking for famous people. Danny got to see Kevin O'Leary from Dragons Den, who I missed because I was escorting my lovely sister to the bathroom! Well at least Rick the Temp made an appearance in our picture!

Finally they let us into the main theatre where we grab seats in the third row!!! Thanks again to priority seating.  I spent the next 15 minutes people watching...the fashion was unreal, everything from evening gowns to leather and lace! Danny who sat next to me was trying to figure out with Dave how they could possibly get close to Natalie Portman and then there is Jackie, who I think was more excited about the mars bars she smuggled in her purse!

Dave the floating head!

Then after a little while, from stage right (like that professional talk?) a bunch of press came out and stood right in front of the stage. They also brought out a podium at which point this very nice man who I didn't know welcomed us and began to introduce the movie. Before we knew it out came Darren who was very humble and well spoken. He then introduced his cast of stars, who one by one came out on stage.

I really like this picture with the silhouette of the press...only if it was clearer!
So the last few shots of the cast unfortunately aren't that great and the reason for that was 1. my little canon is good as you can see but not amazing. Number 2. there was a big giant blonde oaf of a photographer blocking my view and 3. the two girls in front of me with giant heads! (think they are in every picture).
It was regardless very cool to see the stars up close. Wynona was miss crazy eyes, don't know if you can tell in the pics but it was very creepy! Barbara Hersey who I loved from beaches, looks like plastic surgery gone wrong! Vincent Cassel was a handsome older man, too skinny for my liking! And then the one Dave and Danny have been waiting for Ms Natalie Portman...she looked alright... fine she looked amazing! Bitch!

Well like I said earlier it was quite the posh and memorable evening! The movie was a nail biting thriller that had the entire theatre gasping and jumping in their seats. By the end of the movie, which by the way the cast stayed to watch received a standing ovation. Definitely worth seeing in the theatres and you should check out the trailer! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0947798/videogallery
